Studio of Rosalind Whitehouse,

Accredited Paintings Conservator - Restorer

Conservation and restoration of European oil paintings from 1500 to the present day, offering in addition a specialist knowledge and experience of the work of many twentieth century painters.

Investigation of complex structures with the help of Conservation Scientists.

Specialists in the use of microscopy and analytical techniques offer invaluable help to the conservator.

Minute samples of paint can be analysed to reveal the structures that make up a painting. Information as to numbers of layers of varnish,  intervening layers of dirt, coatings of overpaint, and the presence and composition of glazes and underdrawing can all be revealed. A variety of services including analysis of pigments  and media, x-ray photography and infra-red imaging can be obtained as required.

Such information is of enormous help when planning the removal of layers of varnish and overpaint from delicate surfaces. When used, these services attract an additional charge.
